Summer Reading List

Here are the picks for the next three months

June 5th Blessed Child By Ted Dekker

July 3rd Lovely Bones By Alice Sebold

August 7th Redeeming Love, by Francine Rivers

Persuasion, May Book Club

Tanya C. hosted the group and it was lovely. We had a small but lively group that consisted of Ami, Faith, Tanya, Audra and Jen (not to mention Rosemary and Naomi).

The book club, (those not in attendance included) seems to be split as to the merit of this classic novel. For almost everyone it was definitely hard to switch gears and get into the style of Jane Austen's novel. We definitely agreed that if you already knew the story or listened to the audio recording of it, it made it much easier to follow.

We enjoyed a nice chat about the book and it's characters and enjoyed a great time of visiting with each other.

Thanks for the great time ladies!

PS- Another night sans chocolate... next month we will have to make sure someone supplies the goods! So funny!

We did get to sample a wine from 1982.... this proved to be more of a science experiment as well as a lesson in Wine for those of us less savvy in the Wine department. Apparently, not all wine and not all cheese get better with age. This is good to know!

Oh and we did pick three more books. We took a Scientific approach to this too. We put all the titles of books that were suggested into a vase and drew them at random.

See the next post to find out the winners.

Beauty and the Bee

Honey Pat. This is the best way to bring a lively glow to your face and body while you moisturize and smooth. And it’s so much fun! Just bring one of those cute little honey-bears into the tub with you. Squeeze some honey anywhere on your skin and pat it with both hands. As you continue to pat your skin, the honey gets really sticky, and will pull up your skin gently with every pat. This is the BEST for circulation, and you’ll end up with a gorgeous glow. Rinse off the honey when you’ve had enough.

Honey Bath. If you don’t have time to pat-and-glow, just add 1/4 cup or so of honey to your bath. Mmmm—sweet, silky, and luscious skin.

Honey Shiny Hair. Mix 1 teaspoon honey, a squeeze of fresh lemon, and 1 quart of warm water. After shampooing, simply pour through hair. Let your hair dry as you normally would; you don’t need to rinse it out.

Moisturizing Honey Mask. Mix 2 tablespoons honey and 2 teaspoons milk or cream. Smooth on face and allow to remain for 10 minutes, then rinse.

Honey-Apple Toner. This sweet alpha-hydroxy miracle will help to firm, smooth, and moisturize your skin. In a blender or food processor, combine 1 peeled, cored apple with a tablespoon of honey and pulse until smooth. Apply pulp gently to face and allow to remain for 15 minutes, then rinse.

Good-Enough-to-Eat Facial Cleansing Scrub. Combine 1 tablespoon honey, 1 tablespoon finely-ground almonds, 2 tablespoons dry oatmeal, and enough lemon juice to moisten. Massage mixture gently onto face, then rinse with warm water.

Honey Hair Conditioning Treatment. This great formula combines the benefits of honey and olive oil for lustrous, silky, healthy hair and scalp. Simply combine 1/2 cup honey and 2 tablespoons to 1/4 cup olive oil (depending on the dryness of your hair and scalp). Saturate hair and scalp with this conditioner, then put on a shower cap and allow the conditioner to remain for 30 minutes before you shampoo and rinse as usual.

Soothing Treatment for Rough Heels. Combine 2 tablespoons of honey, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1 tablespoon of almond oil. Mix well and then apply generously to the soles of the feet, the slide feet into heavy socks. Sleep with the mixture on and then wash off in the morning.

If you are unable to sleep with the mask on over night,

leave on for a minimum of 30 minutes,

then wash it off.

If you have especially cracked heels you should

do this 2-3 times a week for the ideal result.

The Secret Life of Bees

This book club was held at my place. It is hilarious because everyone brought some kind of dip to share. I think we had three different kinds to choose from. It was funny.... no chocolate...whooops! Not to worry we still had wine, which seems to be a book club staple.

After our discussion, (which really came alive when we started to share Bee experiences) we tested out a few honey remedies like they had in the book.

My favorite part was when Ami decided to try out the honey treatment on her feet, and I got to help her wrap her feet in plastic so she could put her honey slathered feet back into her shoes. Good times!

Circle of Friends March Book Club

This book club really lived up to the name of the novel we read. It was such a fun night. We sat in a circle around Audra's table and laughed and ate and laughed some more! It was awesome.

This book club will also be remembered as the book club de chocolate! We had other treats too, but really dug the Chocolate! Marjorie brought some AMAZING brownies with Bourbon (I think) in them... yum

We started out talking about the book, and then we shared Prom dream or disaster stories, we also shared our child hood nicknames. (These questions were inspired by the book, Benny's nicknames, and her first dance experience).

Cheers, Book Club Friends, I raise a glass of Club Orange to you!
